Talk about robbing Peter to pay Paul!!
Deltona, FL - A pair of teenagers face burglary, grand theft and criminal mischief charges after trying to steal an air conditioner from a Deltona home in order to pay off a shoplifting debt.
18-year-old Kimani Parker was arrested early Tuesday morning, while 17-year-old Kyle DeJesus was released to his parents.
Deputies say they got a call from a man on his way to work around 6am Tuesday, saying he saw Parker and DeJesus – both from Croton Avenue in Deltona – with the A/C unit in a yellow wheelbarrow and thought it looked suspicious.
When questioned by deputies, Parker admitted that they took it from a vacant house on Otis Avenue after cutting off the copper pipes and wires connecting it to the house with pruning shears. That came after deputies say he initially lied about having the owner’s permission to take it and sell it.
Parker also said he planned to sell the A/C unit to a scrap yard to help pay off a $200 civil obligation he owed to a Walmart store.
Deputies found the missing A/C unit in a wooded area next to DeJesus’ home, where Parker said they dumped it after spotting a VCSO patrol vehicle going through the area.
