You saw the headline on the news before you left the house this morning: A popular cereal has people outraged! But you didn’t get to hang around to find out what it’s all about.
So here’s the deal:
Kellogg’s recently released a new Corn Pops box that has a picture of cartoon corn pops characters hanging out at a mall. All of the characters are the same yellow corn color except the one brown one . . . and he’s the janitor.
A guy from Detroit spotted the janitor corn pop on Tuesday morning and tweeted a photo of it to Kellogg’s.
He wrote, quote, “This is teaching kids racism . . . yes it’s a tiny thing, but when you see your kid staring at this over breakfast and realize millions of other kids are doing the same . . .”
Kellogg’s quickly tweeted an apology and said they’re planning to update the box.
HOW DO THINGS LIKE THIS GET PAST 1,000 MARKETING PEOPLE!?!?!
