DNA’s Christmas songs you won’t hear on the radio

Unfortunately, the world has forgotten some Christmas classics! Ok, maybe not classics.

We collect old Christmas vinyl compilation albums from the 60s, the more obscure the better! Creepily singing a prayer? A spine-chilling boys choir? Talk/singing a story? If you love weird old stuff, you’ll love this selection of deep Christmas cuts!

Let’s start with Dean Martin. He’s got one of those classic Christmas voices, but for a member slick, sexy Rat Pack, this song is so goofy! With lyrics like, “it’s a yum-yummy world made for sweethearts” and “and the sun is red, like a pumpkin head / it’s shining so your nose won’t freeze”

You had to know there would be some Robert Goulet on our list, right?! This Christmas I Spend With You is one of our favorite bizzaro Christmas songs, especially when he gets to the RINGS BELLS bridge! Big bells, little bells? WHAT?!

Mark it yourself, Rob!

I don’t think there’s a more depressing and haunting Christmas song than Sally Ann Howes’ version of Toyland. Take out the Christmasy twinkles, and this would be a great addition to your haunted house soundtrack. I just imagine a room full of headless baby dolls and this song playing on an ancient Victrola!

Once you pass its borders, you can ne’er return again 🤷‍♀️

Bob Dylan, Must Be Santa

Here’s one from Amy in Arlington: “It’s so weird. He just randomly starts listing U.S. Presidents in the middle of the song!”

Leontyne Price – I Wonder As I Wander

Kay Manley suggested this one–the fun of Christmas tunes is singing along with them…you have to understand some of the words in order to do that though!

You’ll find quite a few of these cuts on my favorite Christmas compilation album, Goodyear Presents The Great Songs Of Christmas Vol 7.
